VFW Post 628, Sioux Falls, S.D., gathered the local community to properly send off the 114th Fighter Wing of the South Dakota Air National Guard.
Over 700 people attended the 2008 event, including members of Post 628 and its Ladies Auxiliary, as well as family and friends of the deploying service members.
A VFW Military Assistance Program grant provided food and beverages while everyone socialized and showed their support.
As the party wrapped up, the members of Post 628 had one last tribute planned.
“As they [the service members] walked to the plane, we formed a flag line for them to pass through,” explained Dale Jensen, a member of Post 628.
“I was told it truly touched them. They talked about it for a long time after they had departed.
“It’s vitally important to hold this type of event to show our support for our troops,” said Jensen.
