Maj. Shannon Weber makes it a point to call home every Sunday if he can.
“I usually talk to my parents, Larry and Joyce Weber, back home in Good Thunder, Minn.,” said Weber, an Army Intelligence Officer of the Army’s Multi National Corps-Iraq, Army National Guard.
“I like to assure my family I am doing well while serving in Iraq, but phone calls also give me a chance to ensure all is well back home.”
Recently, Weber was delighted to connect with home, compliments of the VFW. The free call home, provided by the VFW, was especially sentimental for Weber, a life member of Post 10427, Leander, Texas.
“I take great pride in being a life member of the VFW,” he continued. “I truly appreciate what VFW does. This program [VFW Operation Uplink] is a great morale booster for the military.”
Until Weber is back home relaxing on one of Minnesota's many lakes, he will continue to rely on phone calls to keep a strong connection with home.
“I just want to say thanks again. A phone call may not seem like much, but to a deployed soldier, it’s a great gift—emails are nice but being able to actually talk to your family is much, much better.” |
