You can never show too much appreciation for those who have been injured fighting for our country. On Friday, May 1, 2009, the Veterans of Foreign Wars expressed their thanks by hosting wounded troops from Walter Reed Army Medical Center at a hospitality event at Richmond International Raceway.

Guests of honor started their day at 3:00 p.m. in the hospitality tent at the NASCAR Nationwide Series Lipton Tea 250. The race kicked off at 7:00 p.m.

Thanks to VFW, Rheem Manufacturing Company and other Kevin Harvick, Inc. participating partners, several NASCAR stars turned out to support America's heroes. Drivers who attended included Eric McClure, Jason Keller, Shelby Howard, Ken Butler III, Scott Wimmer, Morgan Shepherd, Cale Gale and Stephen Leicht. In addition, DeLana Harvick, Ryan Newman, Richard Childress and Russ Friedman made special appearances.

“We’re very happy to have been able to host the Walter Reed guests at this event. This wasn’t a VFW primary sponsorship race, so we really have to thank Rheem. Without their co-sponsoring of the hospitality tent, this event wouldn’t have been possible. It really shows how great the KHI team is and illustrates Rheem’s support for our country’s defenders,” says Kevin Jones, VFW Director of Administrative Operations.

The next VFW primary race is in Charlotte, N.C., on May 23rd. Guests will cheer on Kevin Harvick in the VFW car during the nationwide race, hoping for the first VFW win of the 2009 season.
